Winning Independent Business of the Year at the Wigan Business Awards was a proud and emotional moment for everyone at Varty’s.
As a third-generation family business, serving the people of Wigan has never been just a job.
It is part of our family story, our values and our identity.
To be recognised in this way meant a great deal, because it reflected the care, commitment and pride that have shaped Varty’s for generations.
Founded in 1936, Varty’s has supported local families through some of the hardest times in their lives.
Over the decades, the business has grown and evolved, but the heart of it has remained the same. We are here to serve people with dignity, compassion and respect when they need it most.
That is why the award felt so special. It was not only recognition for one year of work. It was a reflection of decades of service, strong family values and the trust that local families continue to place in us.
A proud moment for our family business
For any independent business, recognition like this means a lot. However, for a family-run business with deep roots in Wigan, it carries even more weight.
Varty’s has never lost sight of where it came from.
We are proud to be part of the local community and proud to have remained independent in an industry that has changed significantly over the years.
Winning Independent Business of the Year felt like a celebration of that journey. It was a reminder that being local, personal and values-led still matters.
A double celebration
The evening was made even more special by the fact that Diane was also named Employee of the Year.
Anyone who knows Diane will understand why that meant so much.
She has been a huge part of the business and a huge support to both our team and the families we serve. Her care, commitment and quiet strength make a difference every single day.
To see both the business and one of our most valued team members recognised on the same night was incredibly moving. It made the whole occasion feel even more meaningful.
Proud to represent Wigan
The Wigan Business Awards shine a light on the people, businesses and organisations that make the borough what it is.
To be part of that was an honour in itself. To win was something we will never forget.
Wigan has supported Varty’s for generations, so, any success we enjoy is rooted in the trust of the community around us. We never take that for granted.
Looking ahead with pride
Awards are special, but they are not the reason we do what we do.
The real reward is in helping families, supporting our community and continuing a legacy that began almost 90 years ago.
Still, moments like this give us a chance to stop and reflect. They remind us how far the business has come and how much it means to still be here, still independent and still trusted.
Winning Independent Business of the Year was a proud moment in Varty’s history. Sharing that moment with Diane’s Employee of the Year win made it even more special.
Above all, it was a celebration of family, service and pride in Wigan.
Those things have always been at the heart of Varty’s, and they always will be.
